Kurt Aumann and other members of the staff at Aumann Auctions, Inc. attended the Hillsboro Area Hospital’s Valentine’s Dinner and Dance on Saturday February 13, 2010.
The following article is from one of the many guests that attended the event to help raise money for a wonderful cause. Here is what he had to say...... the can also be found at the following website under the "FORUM" section. http://litchfieldpolitics.com/forums/YaBB.pl?action=search2
Hello Barb and Larry-
Thought you might enjoy this review of the Valentine Gala that turned up on the website www.litchfieldpolitics.com (found under the heading "I Will Be Honest"). Enjoy and take a bow!
The Hillsboro Area Health Foundations Valentine Gala is the most extraordinary event I have attended....EVER!! The people who coordinate that event leave nothing out.
We arrived at approx. 5:30pm and was promptly shown to our table where we met our waiter for the evening, local bank President Harry Hutchinson. He went right to work, describing the wines that he had already uncorked for us that were on the table. He also introduced us to the rest of the people joining us at our table.
While we had time before the meal was served the wife and I decided to do a little gazing at the items in the silent auction. The amount of items and caliber is undescribable, ranging from an autographed John Madden cookbook to a 7 day stay in Africa. Needless to say,I hid my wifes auction paddle number from her while browsing these items.
Upon returning to our table we came upon a familiar face that would be setting with us for the evening, Sam McCann, candidate for IL State Senates 49th District and his spouse Vicki. The laughter began almost immediately between the four of us and continued throughout the night.
The meal was absolutely superb, prepared by Milanos Catering of Hillsboro. The menu included herb and butter potatoes, green beans, prime rib, and I believe something along the lines of a stuffed chicken breast. I’m not sure, I gave mine to my wife as she cannot stomach prime rib. If it ain’t burnt...she won’t touch it.
The desserts were awesome,we had to pass the tray around our table three times and there was still more. Kinda made me wish I would have saved more room for dessert.
Then the band fired up...WOW!! The Fundamentals plays a mix of R&B, rock oldies, and pop with a familiar name in the mix...Leitheiser. Although the music was able to get many to get up and dance,I opted to keep dancing with my inhaler all night.
Then at around 9:00 they started a live auction...yep with a real live auctioneer. I would just say, that if you are ever having an auction....Aumann Auctions, Inc is the way to go. Not only was he able to bring top dollar for the items up for bid, but it was also VERY entertaining. I would go as far to say that the auctioneer garnered more laughs for the evening than all others combined. After the live auction there was another period of music and dancing. This was followed up by a 50/50 drawing that made one winner nearly $400 wealthier. There was also a gun raffle with both a shotgun and a lever action rifle given away. And three winners walked away with wads of cash in the money-money-money drawing with prizes in the amount of $250,$500,and $1,000.
As they were closing the doors on the silent auction and those inside that area,we decided it was about time for us to say our goodbyes.
My wife and I got back into our chariot to make our journey back to Litchfield, and all we could talk about on the way home is how we will return next year and hopefully make it a Valentines tradition for the two of us. What a splendid evening indeed.
